Character

  • Chiyoko Matsumira, a 16 year old girl traditional Rachenn clothing - so traditional, that it dates back nearly a hundred years. Your hair is dyed blue and red on one side such that it shows when it moves, and you have rather piercing blue eyes. Your body is more lean than anything else, from helping maintain Cypresses reserves and a lot of outdoor camping on various observational jobs. Your mother is a housewife in Dustwind Town, and your father is a Pokémon Ranger that specializes in anti-poaching operations, working at the nearby Sailwind Butte Refuge. You should have started your journey at age 10, but your parents balked. You're still not entirely sure why, but they were subtle at first, making you go through first-aid, cpr, some safety courses. Then they sent you to a local Pokémon Trainer course. And then they - and at that point, you knew, they didn't want you to go on the journey. At this point, you chose to take on a kids apprenticeship with Pokémon Professor Cypress, resident in Ember Glen Town, and known for his focus on variants and conservationism. You even met Professor Oak and Elm once, who came to him to consult on a joint Johto-Kanto preservation park around Mt. Silver and the Sinjoh Ruins.

Cypress believed strongly in the concept of watching and documenting Pokémon in their natural habitats. It was on one of those that you met Taki, your Eevee. She followed you home from one such observation of the Eevee-Espeon pack located in one of the valleys near Mt. Silvertail. After a few months, Cypress formally gave you a Strange Ball, the ritual first ball for Rachennian trainers. Still, as it was winter, he recommended you hold off your journey.

Map Notes

  • Yaro City, via Route 401. Pokémon here are Pidgey, Winggull, Tentacool, Oddish, Pachirisu, Budew, Ratatta, Magikarp (no rod prevents capture of: Staryu, Goldeen, Luvdisc, Corsola [Endangered]). A route around Mount Refuge, this is the common first route. A few trainers, nice beach scenes. Chance of random encounters is 1 in 5, most likely tourists as most enter through Silverdrift City. Silverdrift has the deepest and safest bay for ships to enter, and is considered the gateway to Rachenn. It also contains many shrines, and is the second largest city in Rachenn. Currently, the Gym Challenge here will not start for a few months, which is beneficial to you as it would require a dragon type to demonstrate precision and mastery of two dragon moves in a mock succession battle. Yaro City was named after the now-extinct Yaro Clan, and their Castle is both a major tourist attraction, and where the Gym Challenge occurs. (Feel free to suggest things to do here if you go here)
  • Airship (will deplete most funds) to Dustwind Town, to see your mother. Chance of remote encounters is 1 in 20, and it will be a flying Pokémon swarm. Dustwind Town is known for it's occasional fairy auracite storms and dust storms blowing from the northwest on certain days, mostly in summer. It contains the main Ranger Lodge for Rachenn, and borders the Sailwind Butte Refuge, and Sailwind Exclusion Zone. You are not qualified to take on the gym here, as the gym leaders and trainers are sometimes on-call to defeat particularly strong Pokémon who attack the town from time to time. However, this will connect you to the overgrown Shrouded Tangle to the east, suitable if you stick to the paths, back to Yaro ity to the West, and potentially even Suncoral City via Frostdrill Cave. This would be a more riskier journey, however.
  • Bluewood Village is only accessible via the Falls Trail. While normally beginning (And a lot of) trainers are not encouraged, you are skilled and trained enough to take this very rough-in trail around Cape Stormwatch. This also crosses the Gyrados Waterfalls, meaning there is always a chance of a Gyarados encounter. Pokémon here are Geodude, Winggull, Rattata, Aron, Zubat, Phanpy (rare) and a very dangerous encounter: Rachennian Gyardos (Water/Dragon). Once you get to the low lands, you will encounter Oddish, Caterpie, Weedle, Wurmple, Poochyena, Zigazoon. You also have a chance for a very dangerous encounter with Glowvine [Grass/Ghost] or Phantom Moth [Bug/Ghost] who are very lost, or you are dangerously lost. Random encounter chance 1 in 3. May be a criminal, may be a hiker, may be a wizened old traveler willing to give advice.
